- Save as otherwise provided in the proviso to sub-section (1) of section 7 and sub-section (10) of section 9, the provisions of this Act shall apply to e-cart and e-rickshaw.
- For the purposes of this section, “e-cart or e-rickshaw” means a special purpose battery powered vehicle of power not exceeding 4000 watts, having three wheels for carrying goods or passengers, as the case may be, for hire or reward, manufactured, constructed or adapted, equipped and maintained in accordance with such specifications, as may be prescribed in this behalf.
Simplified Explanation
Section 2A of the Motor Vehicles Act defines e-carts and e-rickshaws. Here’s a simplified explanation:
- E-cart: A motorized cart that is powered by an electric motor. It’s designed to carry goods and has a specific load capacity. It’s usually used for small deliveries or transporting materials.
- E-rickshaw: A three-wheeled vehicle powered by an electric motor. It is primarily used to carry passengers and is an eco-friendly alternative to auto-rickshaws. The motor’s power is generally limited to ensure safety and efficiency for short-distance travel.
This section ensures that e-carts and e-rickshaws are legally recognized as part of the Motor Vehicles Act, establishing rules for their use, registration, and regulation.
